The Dia Art Foundation in New York announced today that, following a gift from the Dr. Mortimer and Theresa Sackler Foundation, it has created the Sackler Institute, which a release describes as “a center without walls.” The gift is being described as “generous,” though no exact amount was specified, and a press rep declined to name the figure.
The new Sackler Institute will support Dia’s programming and public lectures series, as well as research and education at the foundation. Marissa Sackler, the founder of the nonprofit incubator Beespace, who is also a trustee at Dia, said in a statement that she was “thrilled” that her family would continue to support Dia.
Jessica Morgan, the director of Dia, said, “The Sackler Foundation’s generous gift provides a new platform for Dia’s critical programs. We are grateful to Marissa Sackler and her family for their leadership and support. We are confident that the creation of the Sackler Institute will be a catalyst for expanding and deepening our rich network of ideas and knowledge, which is at the heart of Dia’s mission.”
