Last week, e-flux, the journal devoted to academic discourse about art, launched a new website for writing about architecture. That platform has a name that’s very to-the-point: e-flux Architecture.
“We’ve always been extremely interested in the discourse you find in the theoretical and research based practices in architecture, urban studies, etc.,” Anton Vidokle, the founder of e-flux, wrote in an email to ARTnews. “There is a lot of overlap with related ideas in the art field and we feel that they both could learn from and inform each other.”
The April 2015 issue of e-flux was about architecture, and in some ways the new platform is an extension of that. Already online at e-flux Architecture is “Self-Design, or Productive Narcissism,” an essay written by Boris Groys, for the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial, about the connection between self-obsession and architecture.
Vidokle explained that e-flux Architecture will “develop special projects and publications, organize symposia, distribute announcements about important events in the field of architecture, focusing on critical, discursive, and theoretical practices but also including actual projects, new public commissions and so forth,” Vidokle wrote. “Eventually, this may develop into an independent website.”
