Jorge Daniel Veneciano, the executive director of New York’s El Museo del Barrio, will step down at the end of the month, museum officials announced in a press release. Berta Colón, the deputy director of institutional advancement, and Carlos Gálvez, the deputy executive director, will act as co-directors while a search committee looks for Veneciano’s replacement.
“It’s truly been an honor to lead El Museo, a storied and monumental institution, and alongside its dedicated staff and engaged Board. As a team, we have been able to elevate the museum’s stature and lift its service capacities to new heights,” Veneciano said in the release. “Everyone benefits, and that’s the crucial legacy of this historic institution.”
Veneciano had been executive director of El Museo del Barrio, one of New York’s best-known Latin cultural institutions, for three years. Of his new career move, the institution says he will “pursue new opportunities”
