Today, New York’s El Museo del Barrio announced that its board has selected Michael J. Garcia to be its new chairman.
Garcia is a partner with the international law firm Kirkland & Ellis and has served as first vice chair of El Museo’s board since 2013. He is replacing Tony Bechara, who will remain on the board (taking the title of chairman emeritus) and continue to lead as chairman through June.
Jorge Daniel Veneciano, El Museo’s executive director, had this to say: “Michael is the perfect choice to see us through the next phase of El Museo’s development. I have enjoyed serving as director under Tony Bechara and learning from his leadership, and I anticipate no less in working with Michael.”
