Emma Son has been appointed as senior director of the Korean outpost of Lehmann Maupin, which also has spaces in New York and Hong Kong. She has worked as a director for the gallery in Seoul since 2017. Prior to that, Son worked with the city’s Kukje Gallery and, in 2007, founded her own Gallery EM, which she disbanded late last year to devote her time fully to Lehmann Maupin.
“She’s been working very closely with our artists, giving some of our Western artists their first visible attention in Korea,” Rachel Lehmann told ARTnews. Nari Ward and Angel Otero are among the artists who have showed at the gallery’s Seoul location, which is currently showing Gilbert & George and is slated to mount an exhibition of work by Nicholas Hlobo in March.
“She’s done a very good job with our artists in general,” Lehmann continued. “We all felt this was the right moment to promote her to the new title.”
