Today’s show: “For a New World to Come: Experiments in Japanese Art and Photography, 1968–1979” is on view at Grey Art Gallery in New York until Saturday, December 5. The second part of the exhibition will open Friday, October 9, at the Japan Society and will be on view until Sunday, January 10. The exhibition, organized by the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, focuses on the experimental use of photography by Japanese artists, starting in 1968 in the wake of the social unrest regarding the Vietnam War, student protests in Tokyo, an economic boom, and the continued occupation of Okinawa by the United States.
