The Frieze New York art fair has announced the line-up for its 2015 talks. The program was inspired, according to Frieze, by the critic Jerry Saltz being kicked off of Facebook for posting art historical images that didn’t quite mesh with the social networking site’s regulations. The talks will “address the ways in which artists, critics and curators push the limits of hu-mor, irony, decency and performance as well as the audience’s willingness to tolerate or accept those provocations,” according to a release from the fair. The release also boasts the number of Saltz’s followers on social media—150,000!—because the art world is basically just high school for rich grown-ups.
Saltz will appear in a conversation with an audience called “Ask Jerry.” Other talks include a panel on “new models for artists’ collectives” hosted by Triple Canopy editor Alexander Provan; a talk show-style panel about the “aesthetics of female attractiveness” featuring artist Casey Jane Ellison, Vogue columnist Karley Sciortino, and filmmaker Leilah Weinraub; and a discussion between Thelma Golden, director of the Studio Museum in Harlem, and Arnold Lehman, director of the Brooklyn Museum, focusing on the topic, “Whom do museums serve?”
Frieze runs May 14-17 on Randall’s Island. Full line-up of talks is below!
