Garage Magazine, Dasha Zhukova’s biannual art and fashion publication, has organized a sale to benefit the California Institute of the Arts. The sale—called “The Garage Sale,” natch—will take place on eBay on Sunday, January 25th. Garage said in a release that the sale is structured “in the tradition of the American garage sale. Thirteen of the world’s most renowned artists and creative minds rummaged through the forgotten corners of their homes to uncover long lost treasures to auction in support of arts education.”
Among the pieces on offer are a customized surfboard by Richard Phillips, an inflatable dolphin courtesy of Jeff Koons, and a “mixed-media artwork” by James Franco, whose garage is undoubtedly filled with that kind of thing. Somehow, because the world is merely a rotating ball of confusion with no purpose, among the three, Franco is the only one who has been on the CalArts faculty, albeit in the role of visiting professor. The sale runs through February 3.
