Bridget Donahue, director at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, plans to open a gallery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. In an email to ARTnews Donahue said she received the keys to the space at 99 Bowery, on the second floor, on Monday.
She plans to open in February with a show by Lynn Hershman Leeson pegged to her survey show at ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany, and a new monograph.
“One novel fact is that Gavin has been extremely supportive and I will continue working on sales with GBe,” she wrote. “I think the name of my space will just be my own, Bridget Donahue, though we joke that Gallery Bridget Donahue would make the nice abbreviated gBD counterpart to GBe.”
This isn’t Donahue’s first foray into gallery ownership: Donahue is one of the four cofounders of Cleopatra’s in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Beyond the Hershman Leeson show, Donahue wrote, “I’m talking to a handful of other artists as you can imagine but nothing else is confirmed as of now.”
