The Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles has received a $5 million gift from former United States Secretary of Commerce John Bryson and his wife, Louise Henry Bryson, who is currently the executive vice president of the TV channel Lifetime. In accordance with the gift, the institute will rename its director’s position title, which will now bear the Brysons’ names.
The Brysons have maintained ties to the J. Paul Getty Trust, which supports several institutions, including the Getty Conservation Institute, for years. Louise was the chair of the trust’s board for 12 years and is currently its board’s chair emerita.
In a statement, Louise said, “John and I are deeply committed to the mission of the Getty, and passionate about the work of the Getty Conservation Institute in particular. We are pleased to make this gift to allow the GCI to pursue its conservation work in a world where cultural heritage is increasingly at risk.”
