COURTESY GOLDSMITHS
Goldsmiths, the University of London—home to one of the world’s most prestigious art departments—will soon build a public gallery behind that department’s South East London facility, The Art Newspaper reports.
In order to raise approximately $3.5 million for the renovation, the newspaper writes, “the institution is asking its star alumni and emeritus professors, including Michael Craig-Martin, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Antony Gormley, Fiona Banner, Bob and Roberta Smith, Rebecca Warren and Ceal Floyer, to donate works that will be auctioned by Christie’s, possibly next year.”
An architect will be announced next week, with plans for construction to be finished at the end of 2015.
