The fourth edition of MoMA PS1’s sprawling quinquennial survey, “Greater New York,” opens Sunday, October 11, with some 150 artists. Long a showcase for young artists, the show has broadened its outlook this year, inviting in people from many generations. Above, a brief look at the size of the shows over the years, as well as the gender and age of the participating artists. As the graph notes, the shows have skewed a bit male over the four editions (though 2010 was almost equal between men and women) and they always been dominated by thirty-somethings, though their hold has weakened this year with the inclusion of elders and the deceased. (Note that the not-applicable category includes participants whose birthdates were not available or are collectives.)
