Gregory Burke has resigned from his position as executive director & CEO of Remai Modern in Saskatoon, Canada, where he has been employed since the museum opened in 2017. His last day at Remai Modern will be March 15, 2019, after which he will take up his new position as director of the Auckland Art Gallery in New Zealand.
Scott Verity, the chair of Remai Modern’s board, said in a statement, “The board offers Gregory our heartfelt thanks for his passion and dedication to the monumental project of opening Remai Modern, Canada’s newest modern art museum. We wish Gregory the very best in his new role and look forward to continuing to build on the solid foundation he has created for Remai Modern.”
The museum celebrated its one-year anniversary this past October, and according to a recent Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority report, Remai Modern has added $21.3 million to the city’s GDP.
Burke noted in the same release, “It’s been an enormous privilege to work with visionary donors, an ambitious and committed board, and the people of Saskatoon to establish Remai Modern. . . . Saskatoon and Remai Modern will always have a special place in my heart.”
