COURTESY HAUSER & WIRTH
Hauser & Wirth will be taking over the former Dia building at 548 West 22nd Street in Chelsea, the gallery announced today. The space will serve as a temporary location while the gallery builds a permanent space next door.
Hauser & Wirth is currently operating out of another massive temporary location, on West 18th Street, but according to a statement, all of the business’s “downtown activities” (as the gallery put it) will be centered out of 548 West 22nd Street by early 2017. The gallery will present exhibitions there beginning in early 2016 and continuing through 2018, until the permanent gallery space is completed. Hauser & Wirth’s Upper East Side townhouse on 69th Street will continue operations as usual.
