COURTESY OF THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART
The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., announced a second acquisition of pieces—mainly works on paper—from the Corcoran Gallery of Art, which decided to disband last year for financial reasons. This most recent accession adds 1,541 pieces, bringing the total number of objects acquired since last February to a near 8,000 of the Corcoran’s original 17,000.
Currently, the National Gallery has 58 pieces on view from the Corcoran, including works by Mary Cassatt, Honoré Daumier, Gerrit Dou, and Edward Hopper. Due to the size and scope of the Corcoran’s collection, the National Gallery has endorsed a plan to redistribute works it does not acquire to other cultural institutions in D.C., under the approval of Corcoran’s Trustees.
The complete list of the National Gallery’s second round of acquisitions follows in the PDF below. The first-round list of 6,430 works is available here.
