HIGH MUSEUM OF ART
Today Atlanta’s High Museum of Art announced that it is the recipient of a $2.5 million gift for its folk art and self-taught department that will support exhibition making, conservation, and collecting, and endow a new curatorial position. (Not a lot of those jobs out there!)
The gift comes from local philanthropist Dan Boone and his late wife Merrie Boone. “Merrie and I shared a passion for Southern self-taught art,” Boone said in a statement released to press. “We also shared a vision: for the High to develop the world’s preeminent collection of self-taught and folk art.”
The High’s folk art collection has almost 800 works, including pieces by artists like Bill Traylor, Reverend Howard Finster, Martín Ramirez and others. The museum’s website has a nice selection of images. Why not have a look over lunch?
