The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston has found its new chief curator—Eva Respini, who is currently a curator in the Museum of Modern Art’s photography department. Expected to begin at the ICA in March 2015, Respini will replace Helen Molesworth, who began as chief curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in September.
Respini is known for her ambitious, critically acclaimed exhibitions of photography at MoMA. In 2012, she organized MoMA’s Cindy Sherman retrospective, which drew about 5,700 visitors each day. She is also known for 2010’s “Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography,” a sprawling show of 170 years of photography by women artists. More recently, Respini organized this year’s “Robert Heinecken: Object Matter,” the first retrospective since the artist’s death in 2006.
In a press release from the ICA, Respini said, “It is a tremendous honor to join Jill Medvedow and the team at the ICA in Boston. The ICA is an institution that I have long admired for its leadership in the contemporary art field and innovative programing in a dynamic building. I am eager to build on the ICA’s strength and continue to engage with artists who are shaping and defining art across the globe.”
