The International Center of Photography has announced its eight 2015 Infinity Award winners, all of whom will be honored at an awards ceremony—which doubles as ICP’s largest annual fundraiser—on April 30 at Pier 60 at the Chelsea Piers in New York.
Meanwhile, Larry Fink, a veteran photographer of 55 years, was won the Art award—Besides appearing in one-man shows at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Musée de l’Elysée (Lausanne, Switzerland), and the Musée de la Photographie (Charleroi, Belgium), his work has won two John Simon Guggenheim Fellowships, two National Endowment for the Arts, and two Individual Photography Fellowships.
The category of New Media was given to Question Bridge: Black Males, a cross-media project that aims to reclaim black male identity in America led by Chris Johnson and Hank Willis Thomas.
Tomas van Houtryve, the first AP photographer to cover the military prison in Guantánamo Bay, won for his photojournalism, while LaToya Ruby Frazier’s The Notion of Family, a book that visually explores the legacy racism and economic decline in small-town America, was awarded the Publication category.
Getty Images, together with Sheryl Sandberg’s nonprofit, LeanIn.org, received the Trustee award for their Lean In Collection, a library of over 4,500 empowering images of women, girls, families, and the workplace.
Ubiquitous fashion photographer Mario Testino was selected for the Special Presentations category, and the Young Photographer award went to 30-year-old, Russian Arctic-bred Evgenia Arbugaeva, a freelance photojournalist who captures the beautiful barrenness of her homeland on the side.
The Infinity Awards, which celebrate their 31st anniversary this year, claim alumni such as Berenice Abbott, Richard Avedon, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, David Guttenfelder, André Kertész, Karl Lagerfeld, Annie Leibovitz, Helen Levitt, Mary Ellen Mark, Susan Meiselas, Daidō Moriyama, James Nachtwey, Gordon Parks, Jürgen Schadeberg, Malick Sidibé, and Ai Weiwei.
