The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MACAN) in Nusantara, Indonesia, announced today that it will officially open to the public in November 2017. Located in Indonesia’s capital of Jakarta, Museum MACAN’s opening will coincide with the city’s biennale on November 4, as well as the Biennale Jogya, which takes place in the neighboring city of Yogyakarta.
To tide people over until November, Museum MACAN also announced that it will run a series of weekend previews, beginning in March. The program for this series, titled “First Sight,” will include performances by Indonesian and international artists, as well as an educational component that will involve local teachers and schools. The previews will be offered free of charge.
Museum MACAN director Aaron Seeto said in a statement that the First Sight series “will highlight the creativity of Indonesian artists and their international counterparts.”
