The International Studio & Curatorial Program, the Brooklyn-based residency organization, which turns 20 this year, has tapped Susan Hapgood to be its new executive director. Hapgood is currently based in India, where she founded the Mumbai Art Room exhibition space and has been working as visiting professor of curatorial studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. She starts in her new job on Feb. 1, 2015.
It’s a homecoming for Hapgood, who previously served as exhibitions director at Independent Curators International and who did curatorial work at the Guggenheim, the New Museum, and the American Federation of Arts in New York. She also earned her master’s in art history at NYU.
“I am deeply honored and thrilled to assume the directorship of ISCP at this important point in its development,” Hapgood said in a statement. “The crucial role of this institution in the broader arts environment is an inspiration, with its dedication to contemporary artists and curators, and its engagement with New York art audiences and local communities.
