Steven A. Olsen has been named as the next vice president, chief financial officer, and chief operating officer of the J. Paul Getty Trust. Olsen will be responsible for the Getty’s budget, finance, and capital planning, taking over the tripartite position currently held by Patricia Woodworth in summer 2018.
Since 1999, Olsen has been the vice chancellor and chief financial officer at UCLA. In that role Olsen oversaw distribution of the university’s $7.5 billion operating budget and concurrently served as a treasurer and finance committee chairman at the Hammer Museum, where he helped to restructure the institution’s endowment. Olsen was also previously the chief deputy director for the California Department of General Services and deputy director of the California Department of Finance.
In a statement, Getty president and CEO Jim Cuno said of Olsen, “He brings in-depth experience in managing complicated academic and arts organizations like the Getty, and in working with local, national, and political agencies.” Olsen himself said, “I am very much looking forward to working for an arts organization with such an enormous impact here in Los Angeles and worldwide.”
