The Artists’ Legacy Foundation announced two days ago that it awarded Jim Nutt the 2015 Artist Award, which includes an unrestricted grant of $25,000, to be used at the artist’s will.
Nutt’s work, noted for its brooding and psychological images of women, draws on the stylistic lineages of German Expressionism, Pop Art, and Cubism. In a statement, he said a portion of the award’s grant money may go toward archiving and cataloging his early work and career as well as traveling to Berlin and Hamburg to study 19th-century German painting, an opportunity not possible to Nutt until now.
The Foundation is known for supporting artists in general, providing funding for the betterment of each individual’s practice. The jurors for the 2015 Artist Award included curator Julie Joyce, painter Lucinda Parker, and sculptor Peter Shelton.
