The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo in Brazil has appointed José Olympio Pereira as its new president for a two-year term beginning in January. Pereira is the president of Credit Suisse in Brazil and has appeared on the “The ARTnews Top 200 Collectors” list along with his wife, Andrea, since 2014. Earlier this year, the couple opened Galpão de Lapa, a home for part of their 2,000-work collection in a former coffee storage facility.
In a statement, Pereira said that “the Fundação Bienal plays an important role in the dissemination of art in Brazil and worldwide.”
Alongside the appointment came news that Julio Landmann has been picked as chairman of the board, with Marcelo Mattos Araujo serving as its vice president. Other new board members include Andrea Pinheiro, Ana Paula Martinez, Fernando Schuler, Lucas Melo, José Francisco Pinheiro Guimarães, and Luiz Lara.
