Katherine Brinson Named Daskalopoulos Curator, Contemporary Art at Guggenheim

The Guggenheim Museum in New York has named Katherine Brinson its first Daskalopoulos Curator, Contemporary Art. The newly created position was endowed by Dimitris Daskalopoulos, the Greek businessman behind the investment company DAMMA Holdings, SA. Daskalopoulos is the vice president of the museum’s board of trustees and chairman of its collection council, and an ARTnews Top 200 Collector.

Brinson has worked at the Guggenheim since 2005 and curated major exhibitions of work by Christopher Wool and Doris Salcedo, as well as the Hugo Boss Prize shows for Anicka Yi and Paul Chan. She is currently working on the museum’s forthcoming Danh Vo survey.

“As an active board member, art collector, and patron, Dimitris Daskalopoulos is a preeminent advocate for the power of contemporary art to inspire and reflect creative forces in our society,” Richard Armstrong, the museum’s director, said in a statement. “This generous gift to endow a position allows us to continue to advance a founding commitment of the Guggenheim to collect and exhibit the most thought-provoking and innovative art of our time.”
