Windmuller-Luna has been named the Sills Family Consulting Curator of the museum’s African art department. She was most recently a collections research specialist at the Princeton University Art Museum, and has also held positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Neuberger Art Museum, and the Renee and Chaim Gross Foundation. At the Brooklyn Museum, she will oversee a new temporary installation of the institution’s African holdings.
Sawyer will be the Phillip Leonian and Edith Rosenbaum Leonian Curator of the museum’s photography department. He had previously been the head of exhibitions and associate curator in the Columbus Museum of Art. Among the exhibitions he has curated is “Art After Stonewall, 1969 to 1989,” a major survey of two decades of art in queer subcultures that will make stops starting next year at the Grey Art Gallery and the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York, the Frost Art Museum in Miami, and the Columbus Museum of Art.
In a statement, Anne Pasternak, the museum’s director, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Drew and Kristen to our fantastic curatorial team during this period of great momentum as we expand.”
