The LA Art Book Fair, a companion to the NY Art Book Fair in New York, has been canceled for 2018. A statement from Printed Matter, the organizer of both fairs, attributed the cancellation to “the unavailability of the Fair’s venue of the last five years, the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, and the tragic and unexpected passing of our friend and Fair Curator Shannon Michael Cane.” Cane ran the fair, which was launched in 2013. (He also oversaw the NY Art Book Fair, which Printed Matter’s A.A. Bronson started in 2005.)
Cane died in November, at the age of 43.
“We are greatly disappointed that we are unable to mount the fair in 2018,” reads the statement, which is signed by Printed Matter executive director Max Schumann. “The LA Art Book Fair will definitely return in 2019 with renewed energy.”
