The Los Angeles County Museum today announced that its Art + Film gala, the institution’s annual buddy film starring Hollywood and its creepy yet mildly redeeming younger brother, the art world, will honor director Alejandro G. Iñárritu and artist James Turrell. Iñárritu won an Academy Award last year for best director for Birdman, for which he also won Oscars for co-writing and co-producing. Turrell was recently the subject of a retrospective at LACMA.
The event will be held at the museum on November 7, and is co-chaired by Eva Chow, a LACMA trustee, and Leonardo DiCaprio, an actor who had a recurring role on the 7th season of Growing Pains in the early 1990s. My press release states that the party will feature “notables” from a variety of “industries.”
