COURTESY TIMOTHY TAYLOR
The London-based dealer Timothy Taylor will open a gallery in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood in September, called Timothy Taylor 16×34. The name is in reference to the dimensions of the space, which will take up the ground floor of a townhouse at 515 West 19th Street, a block that also includes David Zwirner gallery. Taylor has worked with a wide range of artists, including Alex Katz, Josephine Meckseper, Sean Scully, and Kiki Smith. The details of the first show, which opens September 19, have yet to be announced.
In a statement, Taylor said, “16×34 will capture the spirit of the London programme but apply that vision to the hub of the New York art scene. I wanted a unique space that would allow us to offer something different whilst being in close dialogue with the neighbourhood. I’m looking forward to having this physical presence.”
Please note the British spellings. Spirit of the London programme, indeed!
