Louvre to Close Its Doors for a Day, Following Severe Flooding

The Louvre in Paris announced earlier today that it will close its doors to the public on Friday in light of a spate of flooding, brought on by a torrential downpour that hit the city in recent days. 

The decision represents a preemptive move by the museum, which explained in a press statement: “The aim is to move works situated in areas vulnerable to flooding to safety by moving them to higher floors.”

The BBC reported that the water level of the Seine, which runs right past the Louvre and has already “burst its bank in places,” is estimated to “peak overnight.”
