Chelsea, arguably the center of the New York art world and on Manhattan’s far west side, was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and, to a far lesser degree, fairly hard by Hurricane Irene in 2011.
Now as New York prepares for a major snowstorm (which, let’s be honest, probably won’t be as bad as they’re predicting), the National Weather Service actually seems to be predicting that snow-wise things may not be so bad for the west of Manhattan.
All right so that’s a bit of an exaggeration but if you check out this map of predicted snowfall in the next 48 hours you’ll see that higher accumulation is more likely as one heads east, and less likely as one heads west.
Granted this hardly means anything because basically all of New York is in the same boat, but it’s nice to imagine Chelsea getting a break for once, when it comes to the weather.
