MUSEUM OF MODERN ART FORT WORTH
Michael Auping, who has been with the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth for nearly a quarter-century, is retiring as chief curator, according to the Texas art website Glasstire.
Auping’s curatorial credits at the museum are long, and include the recent Frank Stella show organized with the Whitney Museum, as well as retrospectives for Yves Klein, Ed Ruscha, Philip Guston, and Barnett Newman, among many others. Auping came to the museum from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in 1993.
“We are grateful to Michael for his enormous contributions to this organization, the Fort Worth arts community, and the art world over the past 24 years,” Marla Price, the museum’s director, said in a statement reported by Glasstire. “His scholarship has elevated the Modern to international status among modern and contemporary art institutions.
Glasstire reports that Auping is “at work on a book about the [museum’s Tadao] Ando building, and another about his own career trajectory and conversations he’s had with artists throughout, titled Forty Years: Just Talking about Art.”
