Today, Pitchfork reports that the rainbow rock musician and composer Dan Deacon is playing select dates in support of Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, the collaborative project between Cyrus and The Flaming Lips.
Deacon—who has made work ranging from electronic pop to contemporary classical and has performed his compositions everywhere from alternative art spaces to Carnegie Hall–called the news “one of the most reality-curving events of my career.” Deacon continued: “I’m really looking forward to introducing my music and performance to her fans and to watch this show unfold each night.”
This is not the first time Cyrus has brought a member of the East Coast underground into the fold. She has collaborated with Ben Jones of Paper Rad multiple times. Also, Miley’s show of sculpture last year looked like a prop from a noise show in the mid-2000s. In some small way, the spirit of the seminal Providence collective Fort Thunder lives on with Miley Cyrus, and that is something I didn’t think I would ever type.
