COURTESY MIT
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced today that Russian American philanthropist, collector, and Garage Museum founder Dasha Zhukova has donated $1 million for the purpose of creating a distinguished visiting artist position. The first appointment will be made for the 2016–17 academic year, and will run through June 2018.
The chosen artist, architect, or designer will be awarded an appointment of one to two years by the MIT Center for Art, Science, and Technology (CAST), during which they will conduct research for new work in collaboration with MIT’s students and faculty. In the past, CAST’s Visiting Artists Program have brought artists from all over the world—including include Mel Chin, Olafur Eliasson, Rick Lowe, Vik Muniz, Trevor Paglen, Tomás Saraceno, and Anicka Yi—to work with MIT.
