Mitchell-Innes & Nash Now Represents Monica Bonvicini

Mitchell-Innes & Nash has announced representation of Monica Bonvicini. To coincide with Frieze Week, the gallery’s booth at the Frieze Art Fair will be displaying eight works by the Italian artist, including a neon light piece and drawings of leather chain-link sculptures. The gallery will be hosting an exhibition of Bonvicini’s work in the spring of 2017, which will mark her first solo show in New York in ten years.

Known for her large-scale sculptural installations, Bonvicini also works in architecture, photography, video, painting, and collage. Her work, which often uses humor to address political, sociological, and psychological ideas, has been featured in the Berlin Biennale, the Istanbul Biennale, and the Venice Biennale, as well as in solo shows at the Palais de Tokyo, Modern Art Oxford, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Kunstmuseum Basel. In 1999 Bonvicini won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, and she was appointed Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2012.

In 2010 Bonvicini created She Lies, a floating sculpture now installed in the Bjørvika Fjord, as a commission for the Norwegian Opera and Ballet in Oslo. Two years later she debuted a large public light sculpture, RUN, in the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park in London.

Bonvicini, a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, has served as a professor of performative arts and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna since 2003. Along with Mitchell-Innes & Nash in New York, Bonvicini is represented by Galerie Peter Kilchmann in Zurich and by König Galerie in Berlin.
