Over on MoMA’s website is a list of what the museum has acquired over the past fiscal year. While some of the major acquisitions have already been announced, like Richard Serra’s sculpture installation Equal (2015) and Kerry James Marshall’s painting Untitled (Club Scene), 2013, here are some of other gems you might have missed:
Harmony Korine’s film Spring Breakers (2013), which features four college students who get mixed up with a gun-toting James Franco and have a nightmarish, hallucinogenic spring break.
Josh Kline’s Skittles (2014), which mocks the juice-cleanse craze and was previously shown on the High Line in New York.
Three sculptures by Simon Denny, whose work about surveillance was the subject of a survey at MoMA PS1 last year.
Three of Kara Walker’s African Boy Attendant Curios with Molasses and Brown Sugar (all 2014), coated with molasses and shown melting at the Domino Sugar Factory two summers ago.
Alex Bag’s Cash from Chaos/Unicorns and Rainbows (1994), a set of 118 works by the video-art pioneer.
Six photographs by LaToya Ruby Frazier, who recently was named a MacArthur Genius.
One hundred and nine photographs by Walker Evans, whose work is already well-represented in MoMA’s collection.
