In 2015 Monya Rowe Gallery packed up and moved operations to St. Augustine, Florida, after more than a decade inhabiting spaces in various New York neighborhoods—including Williamsburg, Chelsea, and the Lower East Side.
Now the enterprise plans to return to its home city after a few years of snowbirding in the Sunshine State, many of the same artists in its program.
“Thank you for supporting our exhibitions throughout this Florida chapter,” reads a statement the gallery sent out Tuesday. “We look forward to seeing you in New York.”
There is no further information on the location of the new gallery or the timing of its return. The last address it inhabited, the ground floor storefront at 34 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side, has been occupied in recent years by Alden Projects. A email message sent to the gallery has not yet garnered a response, and a call to the gallery’s listed number did not go through.
But the first exhibition at Monya Rowe’s reopened New York space, according to the announcement, will be a show of new work by Polina Barskaya. Other artists in Monya Rowe’s stable have included Larissa Bates, Angela Dufresne, and Josephine Halvorson, and the gallery also gave early solo shows to artists such as Jacolby Satterwhite and Devin Troy Strother.
