With its 15th anniversary approaching, the Museum of Sex in New York has named a new creative and artist director: Serge Becker, an impresario known for designing some of Manhattan’s most well-known restaurants and clubs. Becker will now oversee the museum’s plan to expand its Flatiron space.
In his new position, Becker will develop event programming and exhibitions as well as a new advertising campaign for the museum, which plans to build a two-story addition over the next four years.
Over the past four decades, Becker has directed music videos for Johnny Cash and Nine Inch Nails, curated the programming for the former Brooklyn performance space Volume, and opened the Manhattan club the Box, among other creative ventures. He has also advised the Public Theater and the New Museum’s Ideas City conference.
In his new role, Becker will help steer a museum whose mission is to “preserve and present the history, evolution, and cultural significance of human sexuality.”
