Tracy Fitzpatrick, who has been chief curator of Purchase College’s Neuberger Museum of Art since 2012, has been tapped by the college to be its director, taking the place of Paola Morsiani, who had been director of the institution for two and a half years and who will remain involved with the institution. According to a rep for the museum, Morsiani, “at the request of the Purchase College Provost, is now working to develop key strategic initiatives involving the museum’s external partners in New York City and Albany.”
Fitzpatrick has also been a professor at Purchase for the past decade and edited a book about the Neuberger’s collection that was recently published. Those holdings include an impressive array of works by 20th- and 21st-century artists like Jackson Pollock, Edward Hopper, Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin, and Milton Avery, as well as a strong African art collection. (Seriously, it has a really nice selection of art, and it’s only about an hour north of New York by car—a perfect day trip.)
“I am deeply honored and tremendously excited to have been selected to be the next director of the Neuberger Museum of Art,” Fitzpatrick said in a statement released to press. “I have long admired the legacy established by Roy R. Neuberger, whose guiding principle was to support living artists by purchasing their works.”
