The New York Film Festival has revealed the trailer for its Projections section, which is devoted to experimental films and videos. The trailer is directed by James N. Kienitz Wilkins, whose work could recently be seen in the 2017 Whitney Biennial’s film section.
This year’s Projections section includes the U.S. premieres of new films by Xu Bing and Neïl Beloufa and a program of films by Barbara Hammer, who will have a survey exhibition at the Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art next month. Also included in shorts programs are works by Peter Burr, Sky Hopinka, Kevin Jerome Everson, and Charlotte Prodger. The section will continue throughout the festival, which begins on September 28 at Lincoln Center and runs through October 15.
Wilkins’s trailer features a construction worker who listens to his phone’s ringtones while on a break. After he gets up to go back to work, the ringtones mysteriously continue. The trailer, which Wilkins considers a work unto itself, can be found below.
