COURTESY THE ARTIST AND WHAT PIPELINE
What a time to be alive. The Detroit-based painter Nolan Simon is currently painting portraits via Skype in order to raise money for a publications program run by the enterprising Motor City gallery What Pipeline.
These works come at bargain prices: $150 for an 8-by-10 incher, and $400 for a 16-by-20 incher. The Knight Foundation is matching the money raised.
As evidenced by the painting illustrated at right, a few people have really decided to have some fun with this. You can email info@whatpipeline.com to schedule a sitting for the project, which concludes this week.
It’s been a busy year for Simon! He has had solo shows at The Green Gallery in Milwaukee and 47 Canal in New York, and a two-person show, with Dylan Spaysky, at Night Club in Chicago. Click those links to take a look at some of his work.
