Today, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, announced it has received a $1.5 million grant from the George Lucas Family Foundation. The grant will be used to develop a set of interactive educational resources that the museum plans to use for a traveling exhibition that will be announced later this fall.
In keeping with the current digital trend, the planned resources will help engage the museum’s permanent collections and special exhibitions through mobile device-friendly virtual and augmented reality apps that offer gallery tours and online resources.
And the connection between Norman Rockwell and George Lucas? The press statement explains:
The partnership between Norman Rockwell Museum and Mr. Lucas, an avid collector of Norman Rockwell artworks, evolved from the shared belief that Rockwell’s art transcends generations and cultures, communicating universal ideals related to community, family, and human rights, and that quality museum programming supports learning in the classroom while connecting people to their communities and broadening cultural awareness.
