The Omaha World-Heard reported that the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, in Omaha, Nebraska, has hired Chris Cook to be its new executive director, replacing Adam Price, who parted ways with the center in January.
Before landing the Bemis job, Cook was based in Miami, where he was executive director of the nonprofit contemporary art organization Cannonball. He has also held positions at the Sioux City Art Center, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, and the Salina Art Center in Salina, Kansas. Cook will oversee a staff of 12 and a budget of around $1.5 million.
“In addition to the Bemis itself, I’ve always been really interested in the culture up there, the level of artistic practice and also the level of support for the culture of philanthropy, which I think is very strong,” Cook told the World-Herald. “It also provides a great quality of life.”
