COURTESY NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WOMEN IN THE ARTS
On Sunday, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, in Washington, D.C., will host a panel titled “Righting the Balance—Can there be gender parity in the art world?” The panel is part of a series of talks and lectures called “Fresh Talks,” in which speakers are invited to discuss issues related to women and art.
Introduced by the National Academy Museum’s chief curator, Maura Reilly, the talk will be comprised of four conversations. In the first, Sarah Douglas, ARTnews’s editor in chief, and Jillian Steinhauer, a senior editor at Hyperallergic, will provide an overview of the issue. Maria Sabbatino, a partner at Galerie Lelong, and Gabriela Palmieri, Sotheby’s senior vice president, will then discuss how that issue affects the market. Ghada Amer, Micol Hebron, Simone Leigh, and Guerrilla Girl Alma Thomas will then bring artists’ perspectives into the conversation. Finally, Jamia Wilson, a feminist activist, will bring this entire conversation into context.
When the panel happens on Sunday at 3 p.m., it can be live-streamed by clicking here.
