Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, a designee on the ARTnews “Top 200 Collectors” list and patron behind a foundation/museum in Turin, Italy, will open the Fundación Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Madrid in 2019. The new foundation will be housed in Nave 9 of the Centre for Contemporary Creation Matadero Madrid, a 1,781,000-square-foot space that was formerly a slaughterhouse.
The Spanish foundation’s space will be designed by David Adjaye and will hold 100 works from Re Rebaudengo’s collection. The works, all of which were made between 1990 and the present, will be broken into cycles and will be shown periodically, according to an announcement.
In a statement, Re Rebaudengo said, “I have chosen Madrid because I consider Spain to be my second homeland. I chose Madrid because it is a big global capital and a bridge to Latin-American culture, a growing scene which I have been watching closely for a long time.”
