COURTESY PIONEER WORKS
Pioneer Works, the big and ambitious interdisciplinary art center in post-industrial Red Hook, Brooklyn, has named the artists to participate in its 2019 residency program, divided into two programs for visual art and music. This year also marks the first time a separate Pioneer Works Tech Residency program is evaluating an open call for applicants (as opposed to an invite-only policy in the past).
Pioneer Works technology director Tommy Martinez told ARTnews, “We wanted a little more diversity in the level at which artists are entering the program. The invitation process has allowed us to work with more established artists, people that are showing institutionally and in galleries, but we wanted to open it up to people who are emerging and not necessarily getting the same type of attention.”
The list of visual art and music residents follows below. (The next round of Tech Residency artists will be announced on March 1.)
