The Pollock-Krasner Foundation has awarded $3.9 million in grants to 125 artists and 25 nonprofit organizations—including museums, art schools, and residency programs—around the world. Alongside the announcement revealing the list of grantees, the foundation said it had provided $228,000 in emergency relief grants to artists and organizations affected by hurricanes and wildfires, and that it has given a $100,000 grant to the Madison Square Park Conservancy in support of Martin Puryear’s work for the U.S. Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, which the Conservancy is commissioning.
Artists Mel Chin, Chris Drury, Alfred Leslie, Don Nice, Morgan O’Hara, and Masami Teraoka are this year’s recipients of the Lee Krasner Award, which is given in recognition of a lifetime artistic achievement. Amy Sherald, the official portrait artist of former First Lady Michelle Obama and a 2013 Pollock-Krasner grant recipient, has won the 2017–18 Pollock Prize for Creativity for work that “embodies high creative standards and exemplifies the impact of art on individuals and society.”
Ronald D. Spencer, the chairman and CEO of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, said in a statement, “Our 2017–18 grant and award recipients demonstrate the depth and breadth of the artists and organizations the Foundation is able to serve, thanks to the legacy of Lee Krasner. We are honored to be able to support Martin Puryear through his commission for the U.S. Pavilion for the 2019 Venice Biennale.”
