Prospect New Orleans has selected Jennifer M. Williams to fill the role of Deputy Director for the Public Experience in advance of the triennial’s fourth edition, which is titled “Prospect.4: The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp” and is set to open this November. Williams will work with Trevor Schoonmaker, Prospect’s artistic director, in the lead-up to a show with 70-plus artists this year.
Williams previously served as executive director of New Orleans’s McKenna Museum of African-American Art. She has also led discussions on economic inequities in New Orleans and around the world, in such settings as Senegal’s Dak’art Biennial and New York’s Urban Bush Women Leadership Institute.
In a statement, Brooke Davis Anderson, Prospect’s executive director, said, “During Prospect.3, Jennifer was working at one of our key partner locations, and her collaborative nature, open-mindedness, and optimistic spirit made a lasting impression on me. I have been wanting to welcome her to the Prospect family ever since, so we are all excited to work with her on Prospect.4.”
Details about the fourth edition of the Prospect triennial remain spare, though Schoonmaker—also chief curator at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University in North Carolina—has previously said that this edition will focus more on artists of Latin American, Caribbean, and African descent than in the past. More specifics about the fourth edition of Prospect are expected to be announced in May.
