The New Delhi–based artist group Raqs Media Collective will serve as the artistic director of 2020 edition of the Yokohama Triennale, which is set to open in early July of that year in Japan. The collective—which is composed of Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula, and Shuddhabrata Sengupta—will organize its Triennale with an eye toward the history and politics of Yokohama, according to a news release.
Raqs Media Collective is a regular on the international biennial circuit, having appeared in more than 20 art festivals since its formation in 1992. From time to time, its members have also taken on the role of curator—they organized the 2016 edition of the Shanghai Biennale and the current Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona exhibition “In the Open or in Stealth.”
Past artistic directors of the triennale include Mizusawa Tsutomu (2008), Miki Akiko (2017), and Yasumasa Morimure (2014).
