The Museum of Modern Art announced today that Ron Magliozzi is now a curator in its film department. Magliozzi has been an associate curator in the department since 2011, and has been working at the museum since 1979.
Over the past few years, Magliozzi has organized some of MoMA’s most successful film-related shows, notable among them the museum’s popular 2009 Tim Burton show and its 2012 Quay Brothers survey. In 2014, Magliozzi oversaw an exhibition about a previously unreleased black-cast feature film from 1913, making it one of the first films of its kind. Even though the show was less popular than the Burton survey, or even a 2005 Pixar show that Magliozzi co-organized, it was a historic one—the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation.
“Ron Magliozzi is a visionary collections and exhibitions curator whose work has resulted in historic discoveries and some of the most popular exhibitions in MoMA’s history,” Rajendra Roy, the chief curator of MoMA’s film department, said in a statement. “[He] has been an essential part of the department for many decades and it is thrilling to see him step into this new leadership role.”
