Ronni Baer is the new distinguished curator and lecturer at the Princeton University Art Museum in New Jersey. Baer is a scholar of Dutch, Flemish, and Spanish art, and has also written on the history of art collecting. Since 2000, she has served as senior curator of paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She will begin in her new position on May 1.
James Steward, director of the Princeton University Art Museum, said in a press release, “Ronni Baer is intellectually lively, an inspired scholar and has spent her career in support of the power of the original work of art. Ronni will be a passionate teacher, curator, and scholar, and we’re delighted to welcome her to Princeton.”
Baer takes the position from John Elderfield, who became the Princeton University Art Museum’s inaugural distinguished curator and lecturer in 2012. He is set to retire on April 30.
In a statement, Baer said, “If I could have written the description for my dream job—one combining the opportunity to collaborate on major scholarly exhibitions and to teach at one of the best universities in the world—this would be it. I am deeply honored and excited to be joining the museum’s team at Princeton.”
